The Trojan War Begins

 

The Trojan War was started when Eris was not invited to Peleus and Thetis’ wedding. Eris took it as an insult so as a gift she gave Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite a golden apple that read “For the most beautiful”. They all fought over the apple. The apple was awarded to Paris the son of King Priam of Troy. Paris had to give the apple to Aphrodite because she promised him the most beautiful women in the world Helen. (World Book, 2007)

 

Helen was married to Menelaus the King of Sparta. Paris persuaded Helen to come with him to Troy. Menelaus was angered he met up with his brother Agamemnon together they started an expedition against Troy to win Helen back. They had great Greek warriors like Achilles, Ajax, and Odyssey. Agamemnon sent 1000 ships to Troy after Achilles would not fight because Agamemnon had insulted him. The Trojan warriors led by Hector forced Greeks back to their ships. Achilles came back after his best friend was killed by Hector. Hector was the best warrior in Troy he was killed after he killed Patroclus Achilles best friend. The Illiad and what people think of it.

 

The Illiad was the story of the Trojan War. Now and day archaeologist say the Illiad might be a little dramatic. They say maybe homer is just not saying the truth. I don't think they mean he is lying but some parts of it maybe false. (EBSCO, 2007)
