Dunsmuir Elementary School District The Dunsmuir Elementary School District is comprised of two schools....Dunsmuir Elementary School (K-8) and Summit Academy, a community day school. Dunsmuir is located in the Sacramento River canyon. Interstate 5 divides the city and makes traveling to other locations easy. Dunsmuir is approximately one hour from the Oregon border to the north and the city of Redding to the south. The school site is located on a secluded, wooded hillside among oak and evergreen trees. There is a full-size gymnasium, a cafeteria for breakfast and lunch, and a state-of-the-art computer lab. Art is offered at all grade levels. Playground facilities for upper grades are separate from primary students. Summit Academy, the district's community day school, began December 1, 1997. Summit Academy averages five students per year. Students follow the same curriculum as D.E.S. students and are taught by a fully-credentialed teacher.
